What is lip tattooing?

If you dream of perfectly painted lips but don’t want to spend time every day in front of the mirror applying lipstick, lip tattooing can be the ideal solution for you. 🙂

Lip tattooing is also called permanent makeup – our goal is to achieve an effect that looks as natural as professionally applied lipstick, but without the need to repeat the application process every day.

Permanent Makeup During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Permanent makeup can be applied during both pregnancy and breastfeeding. The tattooing technique is performed very gently and superficially, with a maximum depth of 1.2 mm. Natural micropigments free from chemicals and heavy metals are used; these are hypoallergenic and safe.

Permanent makeup tattooing has no negative impact on breast milk or fetal development during pregnancy. However, it’s important to note that hormonal changes in the mother’s body may – but do not necessarily – affect how the pigment is absorbed into the skin.

If some of the pigment fades after the initial session, it is commonly corrected with a touch-up within 3 months. This phenomenon can also occur in women who are not pregnant or breastfeeding – it is a natural part of the healing process for permanent makeup.

Healing and the final pigment retention are individual and depend on several factors – such as the body’s internal state, external influences, and post-treatment skin care. When the area is tattooed twice (initial session + touch-up), the result can remain beautifully vibrant for up to 5 years.

Contraindications

(When You Should Not Undergo Permanent Makeup)

  • Use of aspirin or other blood-thinning medications (must be discontinued 28 days prior to the procedure with your doctor’s approval)
  • Use of antibiotics (wait at least two weeks after finishing the treatment to allow proper pigment retention)
  • Cold, flu, or nasal congestion
  • High blood pressure – the procedure is allowed only if the condition is managed with medication
  • Diabetes – if wound healing is poor or insulin is used, it’s advisable to consult a doctor beforehand
  • Elevated intraocular pressure – eyeliner tattooing is not recommended
  • Thyroid disorders – the procedure should be discussed with your treating physician
  • Immune system disorders – for example, after chemotherapy, tattooing can be done no earlier than 6 months after treatment
  • Herpes (cold sores)
  • High blood alcohol levels or drug use
  • Any infectious diseases
  • Skin conditions in the tattoo area (e.g., eczema, moles, melanomas, etc.)
  • Eye inflammation (only relevant for eyeliner tattooing)

Important recommendations before PMU application

  • If you have undergone laser removal of permanent makeup, a new procedure can be performed no sooner than 3 months after the last removal session.
  • PMU is recommended at least 5 weeks after:
    • botox or hyaluronic acid application,
    • laser facial treatments,
    • chemical peels,
    • or other invasive procedures in the facial area.

Frequently asked questions about lip tattoos

The lip tattooing process begins with a consultation with our experienced artist, during which you discuss your ideas together. After selecting the design and color shades, the actual procedure follows. The artist carefully transfers your vision onto your lips using a sterile needle, creating a unique custom artwork.

We contour and fill the lips with color to achieve a perfect shape and even shade. We offer a wide range of certified pigments — we can mix a color for you according to the shade of your favorite lipstick — just bring it with you to the procedure. 🙂

Whether you prefer natural tones (nude effect — natural shades in powdery pinks or soft caramel tones), pastel, plum, wine, brown, or bold and seductive shades of red — you will surely find the perfect one with us.

You don’t need to worry — most clients describe the procedure as relatively painless. During the treatment, you might feel slight discomfort, but it’s definitely nothing you can’t handle. Our modern tattoo machine is designed to minimize pain and provide you with the most comfortable experience possible during the tattooing. For those who are still concerned about pain, we offer a lidocaine cream that perfectly numbs the lips so you won’t feel anything at all. 🙂

The duration of the procedure depends on the complexity of the tattoo and the size of the lips. The average tattooing time is approximately 2.5 hours.

High-quality lip tattooing, performed by a professional using premium pigments like those used at our clinic, can last on the skin for many years. Of course, proper aftercare is essential to maintain its beauty and long-lasting durability.
